SUPPORT TO AWARENESS RAISING ON FOOD LOSSES AND FOOD WASTE
 (TCP/MON/3502 Component-2)

Food losses and food waste are issues of serious concern and could seriously threaten the food security of the country, if measures are not taken to raise awareness about their occurrence, causes and impacts.
In this regard, the main objective of the technical and financial assistance through TCPF is to organize and implement a national campaign on Awareness Rising on Food Losses and Food Waste. This Awareness Raising Campaign will enable the GoM toward development of a national strategy to reduce Food Losses and Waste.

The project is now seeking to recruit a qualified individual for the following position:
National Consultant (Save Food Campaign – Mongolia)
Under the operational supervision of FAO-Mongolia and the technical guidance of the Senior Agro-industries, Post-harvest Officer at FAO-RAP, the national consultant will undertake the following:
Mission 1: 100 days
• In collaboration with FAO country office and Ministry of Industry and Agriculture, develop a detailed work plan for the activities to be implemented under the campaign and submit to FAO for clearance.
• Develop and disseminate the awareness raising promotional materials targeted to different audiences on Save Food issues in the local language. (Such as posters, brochures, T-shirts, video materials and etc.).
• Built awareness by disseminating information of food losses and food waste through social media channels, press and seminars. (Local TVs, newsletters, journals and magazines and etc.)
• Mobilize the key private sector stakeholders (such as producers, retailers, the food service sector and etc.) for pledging their commitment at executive level to supporting food losses and food waste reduction initiatives.
• Conduct awareness raising seminars and brainstorming workshops for five main topics, such as meat, dairy, vegetable, grain and mill house post harvest losses and food service sector.
• Organize meetings with concerned institutions to develop a national Save Food network with key stakeholders in the public and private sectors, in academia and in research institutions.
• Create new and or strengthen existing partnerships and alliances to exchange knowledge and experience on reducing food loss and food waste through meetings, seminars and workshops.
• Encourage experts to do the short termed base study of food loss and waste for five main topics, such as meat, dairy, vegetable, grain and mill house post harvest losses and food service sector to define the problems and solutions.
• Develop questionnaires to ascertain the key issues that contribute to food loss and food waste in the country and conduct surveys using questionnaires.
• Analyse the findings of the questionnaires, as well as the summary of the study.
• Compile the findings and recommendations of each workshop, surveys and the study, define a strategic approaches and further action plans to reduce food losses and food waste in Mongolia.
• Develop a Technical Cooperation Project document titled “Developing a sustainable system to address reduction of the Food losses and Food waste in Mongolia” based on the defined actions.
Within two weeks for completing the mission, prepare and submit to FAO a mission report that describes activities undertaken, findings, recommendations and follow up
Qualifications:
• At least an MSc degree and 5 years of experience working in the area of food science/ food technology/post-harvest systems handling/food processing
• Extent of knowledge and experience working on project development
Language requirement:
-Must be able to read and write in English
