GERMAN – MONGOLIAN INSTITUTE FOR RESOURCES AND TECHNOLOGY

THE FOUNDATION

The German-Mongolian Institute for Resources and Technology (GMIT) was founded by an agreement between Mongolian President Ts. Elbegdorj and German Chancellor A.Merkel during the Chancellor’s official visit to Mongolia in October 2011.

In March 2013, the GMIT was officially established by the order of the Mongolian government aiming to provide internationally recognized engineering education to Mongolian youths after a two-year-research by joint working groups of both countries.

IMPLEMENTING INSTITUTIONS AND PARTNER UNIVERSITIES

Within the framework of the cooperation between two governments, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, Mongolia, German Federal Enterprise for International Cooperation(GIZ), and The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) are working together as implementing institutions for the establishment and development of the GMIT.

The GMIT established a partnership with a consortium of prestigious German universities. Currently in the consortium, the GMIT joined with Freiberg University of Mining and Technology and Aachen University in the area of curriculum development, cooperative educational exchange, academic collaboration, joint research activities, student exchange, internships, and supervision of bachelor thesis.

CAMPUS ENVIRONMENT

The GMIT has a new modern campus in Nalaih district, Ulaanbaatar with a teaching center for 600 students and a dormitory for about 160 students. Moreover, laboratories, a library, a canteen, a computer lab and a gym adhering to international standards are available.

HIGH QUALITY TRAINING, RESEARCH AND SERVICE

Our university focuses on the university-industry partnership that is geared to combine a sound theoretical basis with practical experience and students will be taught and mentoredin English by both highly qualified Mongolian professors who earned their academic degrees in developed countries and visiting professors from German partner universities.
The GMIT is ready to provide bachelor programs in mineral resources engineering, mechanical engineering, and environmental engineering in English in the academic year 2014/2015 based on the survey on much needed specialists among mining and industrial companies.

Before starting a bachelor degree program, students have a possibility to be involved in a one-year-basic engineering program. The GMIT has successfully started offering a basic engineering program since September 2013. In the academic year 2014/2015, the GMIT offers a basic engineering program as well as the above mentioned three bachelor programs inmineral resources engineering, mechanical engineering and environmental engineering. The students with higher scores can head straight to our bachelor degree programs and as for other students, basic engineering program prepares them for entry to an undergraduate degree program in English at the university. Our bachelor programs aim to promote students professional and personal development, support them to do their internships in both Mongolia and Germany and encourage student exchanges.

We provide promising students the opportunity to receive 50 and 100 percent scholarships depending on their rank from the entrance examination and students have a right to be involved in national scholarships by the Mongolian government and the state foundation allowances.
We plan to expand our bachelor, master and doctoral programs based on the demands of specialists, widen our campus and implement joint research projects.
